Quarantine 2020: How to Have a Virtual Staycation

By: Kathleen Sharp

It’s Day 50 of the confinement period in Paris, and as the days get longer, and weather warmer, we’re all yearning for a little vacation. Of course, with the current restrictions and need for social distancing we’ll have to get creative if we want to take one. Here is a compilation of ways to travel from the safety of your home. All you need is a little suspension of disbelief to enjoy these e-getaways!

Go on a Safari Adventure

WildEarth is an online site dedicated to taking its visitors on live-streamed safaris. Its safaris and videos are educational and the company’s goal is to educate its viewers about wildlife conservation. The site uses vehicles, drones, balloons, and guides on foot to show as many angles of nature as they can.

Take a Museum Tour

Many museums and cultural sites are offering online tours to keep visitors entertained from afar as they, too, are under social distancing restrictions. The American National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. invites you to take a self-guided tour through some of its exhibits. The site is set up so you can see the Earth’s natural wonders “up close” from the comfort of your living room! Best part: you can skip the line unlike the IRL museum!

Enjoy a Travel Podcast

To help pass the time, there are plenty of podcasts available for streaming on Apple’s podcast app or on Spotify. Zero to Travel is a podcast that shares with you travel inspiration and practical advice that will serve you on your next adventures once travel restrictions are lifted!

Visit the Louvre

The City of Light is eerily empty nowadays, but you can still venture into the world’s most iconic art museum. The beloved Parisian art museum is hosting virtual reality tours of its fabled halls and exhibits. All thanks to modern technology, you can behold Mona Lisa’s famous smile and enjoy Egyptian antiques.
